InformationThis will show you how to run Check Disk or chkdsk in Windows 7 to check a selected hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it.
NoteRunning a check disk may take a bit depending on the size of the selected hard disk. For faster and better results, do not use your computer while check disk is checking for errors.
You will have a choice to scan only, scan for and attempt to fix errors, scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or scan for and attempt to fix errors and recovery of bad sectors.
TipSolutions to Common Check Disk (chkdsk) Issues in Windows 7
OPTION ONE 
To Run Chkdsk from Drive's Properties Page
1. Open the Start Menu and click on the Computer button on the right dark side.
2. Right click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and click on Properties. (see screenshot below)
I recently upgraded a laptop to Windows 8.1 and ran into a very annoying problem. Whenever I would try to right-click on anything on the desktop or in Windows Explorer, the right-click menu would take anywhere from 10 to 25 seconds to load! The problem was especially bad on the desktop where I once waited a whopping 30 seconds for the menu to appear.
I remember having this problem on a Windows 7 machine a few years back, but that was because I had a lot of crap entries (third-party extensions) added to my right-click context menu by various programs. I’ll also talk about how to fix that problem too in this article. One quick way to check whether it’s a 3rd party extension causing the issue or if it’s something with Windows 8.1 is to restart in safe mode. If you don’t have the problem in safe mode, then skip down to the section called “Disable 3rd Party Extensions”.

OPTION TWO
1. Open an "elevated command prompt" (right click -> Run as administrator), and do step 2 or 3 below for what type of scan you would like to run.
2. To Scan and Repair System Files
NOTE: Scans the integrity of all protected system files and repairs the system files if needed. Please see red WARNING box at the top of this tutorial.A) In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. (see screenshot below)3. To Only Verify if the System Files are Corrupted
NOTE: This may take a little bit to finish.B) Go to step 4.
NOTE: Scans and only verifies the integrity of all proteced system files only. This command will not change your system files as in the red WARNING box at the top of this tutorial.A) In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /verifyonly and press Enter.4. When the scan is complete, hopefully you will see all is ok like the screenshot below.
Note5. When done, close the elevated command prompt.
OPTION THREE
Note1. Open an "elevated command prompt" (right click -> Run as administrator).
2. In the elevated command prompt, copy and paste the command below, and press Enter. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: This will place a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop with only the SFC scan result details from the CBS.LOG in it.
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
3. Close the elevated command prompt.
4. Open the sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop to see the SFC scan details in the CBS.LOG.
5. You can safely delete the sfcdetails.txt file afterwards if you like.

1st do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.
Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup
Start - type in Search box - COMMAND find at top of list - RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN
sfc /scannow
